A dab rig is one of the most important pieces of equipment in any cannabis user’s kit. It can be used for so many different things, and you can use it for your very first time or an advanced level expert. The best part about this device is that there are no rules when it comes to using a dab rig. It depends on what type of cannabis you’re smoking, and what kind of hits you want to get from a single joint. If you’ve ever wanted to start dabbling with cannabis but didn’t know where to begin, then this article is for you!

What Is a Dab Rig? 

There are many different types of devices available on the market today, and they each serve their own specific purpose. Some people prefer using a blowtorch to heat up their joints, while others like to use a nail gun. However, the two main types of dab rigs are those which consist of a heating element, and those which contain a heating element and a chamber filled with water. 

The first type is called “dabbing.” This method uses dry herb, usually cut into small clumps of about 1-2 grams, to heat up and burn away the active ingredients within the plant material. After the plant material has been heated up enough, you then inhale through a tube at the top. This method is great for creating a quick hit, because you don’t have to wait long for the effects to kick in. A dabbing rig will usually take anywhere between 15-30 seconds to reach full temperature. 

Alternatively, there are also dabs made from oil. These dabs are typically made from concentrates such as shatter, butane hash oil (BHO), or other types of oils. In order to make these dabs, you simply need to add a carrier oil to the concentrate, then heat it up until it burns. You then inhale the smoke produced during this process. 

As you may have guessed, these oil based dabs tend to produce stronger effects than the dry herb variety. Since the concentration of THC is much higher in concentrates, the experience provided by a dab is significantly greater. 

How To Use a Dab Rig 

To use a dab rig, you first need to fill the chamber of the device with a suitable amount of your chosen cannabis product. The size of the chamber will depend on how potent the dabs you intend to smoke are. For example, if you plan to smoke dabs that contain THC levels of 20%, then you should fill the chamber approximately 3/4 of the way full. 

Once the chamber is full, you then have to attach the rig to a power source. You can do this manually, or you can purchase a battery pack that connects directly to the device. Most of these packs come with a built-in switch, allowing you to turn the unit on and off without having to worry about finding the correct cord. Once you have the power source attached, you can place the metal head of the rig against whatever surface you wish to set a fire underneath. 

You might notice that the entire piece of hardware looks fairly similar to a typical lighter or matchbox. That’s because it was originally designed to work with matches or lighters. When you light the end of the metal rod, it heats up quickly, causing a spark to ignite the wick inside. This creates a flame that can be used to start a fire underneath a larger piece of wood, paper, or even a bowl of marijuana. 

One thing to remember while using a dab rig is to always keep your hands away from the metal end of the rod. Doing so will prevent the metal from being hot enough to cause damage to your skin. Once the metal rod begins to emit light, you must remove your hand from the center of the burning area. Otherwise, the heat could potentially cause third degree burns that require medical attention. 

It’s also worth noting that dab rigs are not meant to last forever. While they can certainly be recharged, after the first charge, they should only be able to handle one-two sets of sessions. If you want to continue using them, be sure to invest in a quality replacement head. 

Where Can I Buy a Dab Rigs? 

While dabs can be purchased online and in retail stores, it isn’t necessary. You can actually build your own dab rig for less money (and without any harmful chemicals) by following the steps outlined above. 

However, if you would rather buy a prebuilt device, then you’ll have to find one that fits your needs. There are several different options out there, and each one serves a different purpose. 

For instance, if you’re looking for a portable solution, then you’d probably want to look into a device that attaches to a USB port. This allows you to carry around the rig on your person at all times. Alternatively, if you’re looking for something that can be placed on the side of a stove or in another room where it doesn’t interfere with the functionality of the house, you can opt for a table mounted rig. 

These kinds of devices allow you to easily move the apparatus wherever you please. Of course, the downside to these units is that they aren’t mobile and can’t be taken everywhere with you. They also cost a lot more than the DIY versions. 

Are Dabs Safe? 

Yes! Just like anything else, dabs can be dangerous if not handled properly. Just because you’re using a dab rig does not mean you’re exempt from common sense measures. Here are just a few safety precautions you should follow: 

– Always keep your hands away from the heating element. 

– Never attempt to heat a dab too hot. If it starts to smell bad, then it is likely too hot. 

– Don’t smoke dabs that have burnt residue on them. 

– Make sure the water inside the chamber is not boiling or extremely hot. 

– Keep the chamber clear of flammable materials. 

– Don’t smoke dabs while driving. 

– Stay hydrated while using a dab rig. 

– Know exactly how many dabs you are consuming. 

– Be sure to keep all of the equipment stored securely when not in use. 

– And most importantly – never try to use a dab rig with children present. 

A person can plan to use the dabbing rigs that are in general available for the users. They prove to be the option that will have low side effect in comparison to the smoking. A person can plan for the products and reach the goals in the effective manner.
